Computer Security
What would happen if your
laptop was stolen or lost?
With our own Government
losing data by "misplacing" laptops, any
computer that is portable has a greater
potential to be stolen or lost. So, if YOUR
laptop was stolen or lost,
how much sensitive data would
you lose? If you are backing your data up, then
you have peace of mind that you could recover
any lost data. But that still means your
sensitive data would be in "undesirable" hands.
Company accounts, employee records, banking
details etc. - the potential for serious damage
to you and your company from a single lost
laptop is very high.
Lintronics can provide a service, in which we install proven encryption software onto your laptop. When you (or anyone else) tries to boot your laptop, the system requires a password - before it boots the operating system. The encryption algorithms operate at 256-bit (Military grade) or better. We can even use a multiple encryption method, which uses multiple types of encryption at the same time.
Encryption is not limited to your laptop. We can encrypt your desktop PC's too.
Removing
the Hard Drive
Taking the hard drive out won't help someone trying
to retrieve your sensitive data. The software
encrypts the complete drive - including the
operating system. The only data anyone can see on
your hard drive, is random [encrypted] data, which
is useless without the decryption key (password).
Full
Encryption
Everything is hidden. If
some tries to boot your laptop or PC, the message
"Missing operating system" will be displayed. This
is the message used when a computer cannot find an
operating system, usually after a software or hard
drive failure. Most people seeing this message would
assume that the hard drive is corrupted (backed up
by the fact that the "data" is unreadable) and wipe
the hard drive so they could use the system
themselves - so permanently destroying your
confidential data.
BIOS
Passwords
Where it is possible to activate a BIOS password to
be entered before any operating system boots, it
does not encrypt the data, so someone could still
recover your information. In fact, it is very easy
to remove these passwords, by simply resetting the
BIOS.
